Argentine Tango Society Argentine Tango, a social dance, distinct in its poetic style, was once seen as a dance performed between the working class portenos (people who work at the port) and prostitutes. The themes of tango music are the themes of the human condition witnessed and meditated upon during such circumstances; Jealousy, melancholy, revenge, sadness, happiness, loneliness, of love, and loss. Tango is danced by couples (male leader, female follower) in an embrace unique to the dance. The dancers interpret the music and related emotions, through their dance, giving Tango its intense, passionate and sensual visual form.
